The Town of Mono is considering allowing off-road motorcycles on Aikins Tract.
Lisa Thompson from the Ontario Federation of Trail Riders made a presentation to council recently.
During that presentation, Thompson detailed what the federation is about along with a proposal to permit off-road motorcycles on the Aikins Tract.
She explained that the federation is trying to establish safe and legal areas where off-road motorcycles can ride.
In order to do this, the organization is offering education which covers the majority of the cost for the single track trails and ensures adherence to code of conduct and safety measures.
Thompson added that the federation has $15 million in liability insurance.
However, most council members felt it was not appropriate to have motor vehicles go through the Aikins Tract and disturb the wildlife and ecosystems there.
They said the town has a difficult time with motorized vehicles ignoring and taking down signs prohibiting motorized vehicles on trails.
Meanwhile there were also some residents in attendance who spoke against the proposal as well.
