The Town of Orangeville says transit ridership has increased dramatically since they eliminated fares as part of a pilot project.
They say since implementing the two year pilot program that offers free rides, ridership has increased by more than double each month over 2022.
From January to June 2022, Orangeville Transit saw more than 39,879 riders.
Over that same period this year, ridership increased to over 98,648.
Transit officials say there are additional changes coming to Orangeville Transit soon, including routes to include the Veteran’s Way community, a new transit transfer station opening, and on-demand bus services.
