A grant supporting community farming, education, and nature has been awarded to a farm in the region.
Over the weekend, Dufferin Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones announced an Ontario Trillium Fund grant of $119,700 for the Albion Hills Community Farm.
Jones says since 2011, Albion Hills Community Farm has provided opportunities for the community to learn about farming, conservation and sustainable agriculture, and the funding will support their growth as they hire new staff and continue to develop new programs.
The grant will allow them to strengthen ties with local schools and adjacent field centres including helping with the launch of the Caledon School Garden Project.
The project is focused on getting school vegetable gardens in every school in Caledon starting with Peel District School Board schools.
Karen Hutchinson, President of Albion Hills Community Farm says “As we have recovered from COVID, the grant has allowed us to rebuild and strengthen our education programs for the community, especially for students and youth. It is at a time in which there is increased demand for getting kids outside and learning about food as part of their personal health and wellness”.
