A man, a convicted sex offender and his wife – who ran a local camp for kids have been charged in a human trafficking case.
Nottawasaga OPP issued a notification on July 17th, of a sex offender, 42 year old Lauriston Charles Maloney living in Essa Township.
In the news release they stated that Maloney had regular access to the “Beating the Odds” Children’s Camp in Utopia, which offers services for children with autism.
Now the OPP has charged Maloney, and his wife 36 year old Amber-Lee Maloney, the owner and operator of the day camp – with criminal offences.
He has been charged with two counts of assault and trafficking a person, receiving material benefit resulting from trafficking a person, as well as forcible confinement.
His wife is charged with trafficking a person and receiving material benefit, as well as administering a noxious substance, fraud, and uttering forged documents.
Both remain in custody and police say the victim in this case was not a person that attended the day camp.
The company’s website is no longer available online, and a rally took place outside the camp on June 19th by parents.
