With many fire bans still in place and some being lifted as we get more rain, some residents wonder about open air burning rules.
The Town of New Tecumseth posted a graphic to its Facebook page outlining when you do or do not need a permit.
According to the post, if you have an outdoor natural gas or propane appliance, no permit or inspection is required.
However, you’ll need a one time permit and inspection for contained recreational campfires or outdoor wood burning appliances.
You’ll need a permit for what they consider “open air” fires as well.
Those come with more rules including they must be 150 metres from a dwelling and 30 metres from a property line or other structure.
They must also have the right equipment or resources to control or put out the fire.
