The effort to convert Dundalk’s Olde Town Hall and Theatre into a community arts space continues.
A decision for the future of the landmark building is expected to be made by the end of the year.
According to a group that has been working on reopening it, right now the plan would be to sell it to a community invested partner who will then lease the community use spaces back to the community, including a meeting space on the first floor, and the theatre.
The plan, if it all goes forward, would allow them to open the doors sooner with less capital upfront from the township.
A solid plan for the building, with a proven rental interest is what is needed before Southgate Council makes a decision.
They are looking to community members who want to save it and have an interest in community use of it – to reach out.
The goal is to reopen the historic structure to the public, offer a vast variety of arts and culture programs, all while adding to some downtown revitalization.
Anyone with interest in getting involved to save the Olde Town Hall is urged to contact the team at dundalkteamtownhall@gmail.com, send them a direct message through their Facebook page “Dundalk Olde Town Hall” or text or call 705-790-5100.
