Official names have been given to back lanes in Orangeville.
Town Council approved names for 13 downtown lanes and 17 lanes in Montgomery Village.
Some of the names reflect Orangevilles past, such as Carriage Lane, Monument Lane, and Mike Pearson Lane.
Other names are more whimsical, such as Penny Lane, Rocky Lane, and Hope Lane.
The most prominent lanes are the ones north of Broadway, now named Westminster Lane — and Dairy Lane.
17 lanes in Montgomery Village reflect the adjacent street name and floral-themed names.
Lane naming has become a trend in recent years for municipalities to assist emergency services, to commemorate history, to provide an identity and create neighbourhood pride.
