The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating after a massive fire at West Grey Premium Beef along Highway 6 in Durham.
Firefighters responded to the structure fire on Saturday at 11:30 PM, and arrived on-scene to see the main processing area fully engulfed in flames.
Crews from the West Grey Fire Service fought the intense blaze with the assistance of the Wellington North Fire Service’s tanker/water truck.
Fire Chief, Phil Schwartz, tells Bayshore Broadcasting News officials “are in the preliminary stages of knowing what happened,” and an investigator from the Fire Marshal’s Office is now on-site.
He says there “was extensive damage in the middle of the building” and damage is estimated to be between $1-million and $1.5 million..
Further information will be released when the cause has been determined.
