Shelburne Councillor Recognizes Black History Month

Shelburne | by Jill Young
Shelburne Town Councillor Steven Anderson is the first black town council member.

February is Black History Month in Canada, and one of our Town representatives says it has a special meaning to him.

Shelburne Town Councillor Steven Anderson is the first black town council member.

He has been living here for several years, and says there are many important individuals doing great work in our community.

Anderson lists people like Pastor Sterling at the Shelburne Worship Center, and Pastor Sullivan at the Primrose Christian Centre, and Althea and Alton Stevenson -- who run a drop in centre for youth at Glenbrook Elementary School.

He notes they're all influential people he looks up to.

The theme of this year's Black History Month is Black Canadian Women: Stories of Strength, Courage and Vision.
