It’s Emergency Preparedness Week across the province and Dufferin County officials are reminding residents to get ready for any catastropic event.
The most recent Community Risk Profile shows the top 10 hazards in Dufferin County.
Severe winter storms, ice storms, high winds, tornadoes, and power outages round out the top five.
Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Murphy says winter is always a major hazard, and high winds can hit at any time and wreak havoc.
Murphy says people need to get ready for any possible emergency and make sure to have an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, first aid kit inside it.
He says people should check their insurance coverage too, many plans don’t cover flooding and with the recent floods in Ontario and Quebec it serves as a reminder.
Murphy says you can contact your local conservation authority for information on whether you live in an at-risk area for flooding.
